Finding Motivation: Use This Mantra To Get Your Fitness Back On Track

Hey Athletes,

You’ve probably heard this phrase before (especially if you’ve seen the movie Zoolander):

What do we do when we fall off the horse? We get back on!

I like this quote because it implies success is never linear.

First you fail, then you fail, then you fail again, then you fail to fail and so you succeed. Learning how to cope with and learn from failing is one of the most valuable lessons you can learn in life; and in the gym. Failing is part of the process of learning to ride. 

Stop letting the fear of failure hold you back

The fear of failing and exposing our weaknesses - and in doing so, proving we are not as strong/fast/fit as we hoped/thought - scares a lot of people away from ever starting on their fitness journey.

But exposing weaknesses exposes opportunities for improvement.

Failing is a step towards success.

And learning how NOT to do something through failure provides valuable lessons for moving forward.

Fitness, strength, and speed are rewarded to those with mental fortitude and determination; and they are not earned easily.

Success isn't the absence of failure; it's the result of failing and learning  from it

Get comfortable with being uncomfortable. Listen to your body for when you need to rest, but don’t listen to your mind when it is telling you to quit. Resting is essential. Quitting is a choice.

And think about it: someone who succeeds without trying hard or without failing makes for a really boring story! Someone who embraces The Suck, who trudges through the grind, and who gets up every time they’re knocked down isn’t just an athlete; they’re an inspiration.

And on that note, I’d like to leave you with a Mantra that was introduced to me in 1997 by the well-respected and revered band, Chumbawamba:

I get knocked down, but I get up again. You’re never gonna keep me down.

And just like the song goes, sing that over and over again in your head until you DO get up again and get after those fitness goals. YOU GOT THIS!
